Handling interview nerves
Feeling nervous before an interview is common. These are practical habits many people find useful; they are general tips, not medical advice.
Prepare in the same way you will perform
- Practise out loud, standing or sitting as you will in the interview. Saying answers aloud is different from thinking them.
- Practise on video if the interview is on video.
- Repeat practice sessions until the opening minute feels familiar.
In the moment
- Slow down. A short pause to think reads as thoughtful.
- If you lose your thread, say so and restate the question: "Let me come back to the main point."
- If you do not understand a question, ask. Clarifying is a normal part of a good interview.
- A mistake in one answer does not decide the interview. Move on to the next question.
Keep it in perspective
An interview is a two-way conversation. You are also checking whether the role suits you. Treat each interview as practice for the next, and note one thing to improve.
Try it out loud
Reading helps; saying answers aloud helps more. Practise with Ava and get feedback on structure and evidence.
