Interview prep: Healthcare and care settings

Hospitals, clinics, care providers and health-related organisations.

These packs describe general patterns for a type of organisation. They are not about any specific employer, and processes vary a lot. Always follow the instructions you are given for your own interview.

What interviews can look like

  • Questions about patient or client safety, communication and teamwork.
  • Scenario questions about what you would do in a difficult situation.
  • Interest in values, empathy and professional boundaries.

What to show

  • Calm, clear communication under pressure.
  • Safety, accuracy and following procedures.
  • Working as part of a team across roles.
  • Respect and compassion for the people being served.

How to prepare

  • Prepare examples where you handled a difficult conversation or a mistake responsibly.
  • Practise scenario answers: say what you would do first, who you would involve and why.
  • Know the limits of your role and be ready to say when you would escalate.
  • Revisit any professional standards that apply to your role.

Questions you could ask

  • How does the team support each other on difficult days?
  • What does induction and supervision look like?
  • How are concerns raised and handled?
  • What opportunities exist for training?

Watch out for

  • Sharing identifiable details about real patients or clients in any example. Keep stories anonymous.
